ESMS receives Love Your Block Grant

BloomCounty

Egleston Square Main Street proudly accepted one of Boston’s first ever Love Your Block grants of $2,700 to restore the landscaping at the rock garden, or “stonehenge”, on Washington/Columbus/Atherton.

In February 2015, Cities of Service selected Boston as one of  seven cities from across the nation to receive the $30,000 “Love Your Block” Award and dedicated City Hall AmeriCorps VISTAs to support neighborhood revitalization projects. The national non-profit organization, Cities of Service, grants support to mayors and city executives to design and implement high-impact volunteering initiatives that can apply to multiple issues from supporting youth and education to sustainability.

Through Love Your Block, the City of Boston provides mini-grants to local neighborhood groups, block associations, and community-based organizations to carry out revitalization projects in target areas.

Egleston Square Main Street will work with residents from Atherton Street to identify and purchase plantings for the barren green space. We will also install a Little Free Library onsite with the hope of attracting more families. The Friends of the Egleston Branch of the the Boston Public Library have committed an initial donation of books for the library. The planting and installation will take place in May.
