Happy Día de los Niñxs / Día de los Libros

El día de los niños/El día de los libros (Children’s Day/Book Day), commonly known as Día, is a celebration every day of children, families, and reading that culminates yearly on April 30.

Egleston Square Main Street and some of our wonderful barbers partnered with the Boston Public Library to highlight books and literacy to our communities this year. They read from Derrick Barnes incredible picture book, Crown: An Ode to the Fresh Cut and the bilingual Hairs/Pelitos by Sandra Cisneros.

We’ll continue our Día de los Libros events on May 1 at 3:30p in Egleston’s Peace Garden (corner of School St & Washington St) with a pop up reading by local youth. We’ll also have some books available to give to any child who participates in the reading. We will also announce the titles selected for this summer’s Books in the Barbershop initiative, our annual collaboration with local barbershops & salons to distribute books to local youth.

We’ll also give the community an opportunity to view two major public projects scheduled for 2018: One is a public mural right on the street at the intersection of Boylston and Egleston Street and the other is a redesign of the Peace Garden.

Thank you to Micky’s Barbershop and Lawson Brothers Barbershop for reading to our youth.
