Job Description: Interim Executive Director, Egleston Square Main Street

Start Date: ASAP
Compensation: $36/hour, 15-20 hours per week
Flexible hybrid scheduling, in-person and some nights/weekends required

About the organization:

Egleston Square Main Street (ESMS), a volunteer-driven 501(c)3 nonprofit, has been nationally accredited by the National Main Street program since 1996. We revitalize, preserve, and promote Egleston Square, located on the border of Roxbury and Jamaica Plain in Boston, MA. Our programs focus on building community and bringing resources to the district, retaining and developing area small businesses, beautifying the neighborhood, promoting the business district, and enhancing the quality of life. We collaborate with neighbors, merchants, artists, organizations, youth, and the City of Boston’s Office of Economic Opportunity and Inclusion to foster grassroots revitalization and development without displacement.

SUMMARY:

We seek a resourceful, creative, self-motivated, bicultural, and bilingual (English/Spanish) nonprofit professional to maintain continuity of our operations, finances, grant reporting, programs, and strategic initiatives during the search for a permanent Executive Director.

About the ideal candidate:

  • Passionate about ESMS’s mission and community
  • Experience in community/economic development or related fields
  • At least two years of experience in fundraising, community/cultural organizing, space activation, financial management, volunteer coordination, and event planning
  • Cultural competency and ability to build relationships and collaborate with diverse people and groups
  • Strong work ethic, thrives working independently
  • Excellent time management, administrative, and interpersonal skills
  • Experience with Google Docs/Drive, Air Table, and WhatsApp for community organizing and communications
  • Flexibility to work some in-person hours during office hours Monday-Friday, with occasional nights and weekends

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage day-to-day operations, including financials for an annual budget of $193,000, program and project oversight, and supervision of contractors and volunteers
  • Prepare reports and ensure compliance with Boston Main Streets Program and National Main Street requirements
  • Advance high-priority, time-sensitive tasks related to fundraising and development / buildout of ESMS’s community space 
  • Organize, support, plan, and track data around district marketing, small business assistance, public art and beautification projects, and neighborhood events
  • Attend monthly meetings of the City of Boston’s Main Streets program and other relevant meetings
  • Prepare for and participate in monthly board meetings; maintain administrative systems to keep the board and City updated
