Lawson Park Beautification: NAACP Day of Service Volunteer Opportunity
Be part of the 114th NAACP National Convention’s Day of Action and Service by joining volunteers in Boston’s Egleston Square neighborhood on Saturday, July 22, 10:30a-2pm. Meet up at Lawson’s Barbershop & Beauty Salon, 1979 Columbus Ave, Roxbury.
Join the Robert G. Lawson Park Friends Group and Egleston Square Main Street to beautify a historic corner of Egleston Square, visit one of Boston’s most beloved legacy businesses, Lawson’s Barbershop and Beauty Salon, and connect with residents and community groups. Enjoy lunch from local businesses.
Event Schedule:
- 10:30 am: Meet and greet at Lawson’s Barbershop and Beauty Salon, 1979 Columbus Ave, Roxbury. Coffee and refreshments provided.
- 11:00 am: Join the Robert G. Lawson Park Friends Group for a beautification project to lay soil, plant flowers, and help install trellises, planters, and a garden path in a pocket park dedicated to the memory of community leader and master barber Robert G. Lawson, with additional cleanup and beautification work nearby.
- 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm: Enjoy lunch from Star Fish Market and Egleston House of Pizza, sponsored by Egleston Square Main Street.

About Robert G. Lawson and Lawson’s Barbershop & Beauty Salon:
Lawson’s Barbershop and Beauty Salon is an anchor of Egleston Square, a family-owned legacy business originally founded in 1967. It was operated by Robert G. Lawson, their father, master barber, pillar of Egleston Square, and beloved community leader until his death in 2016. The 114th NAACP National Convention is coming to Boston, MA at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center from July 26 – August 1. Each year the NAACP National Convention is an empowering and immersive experience that celebrates our community’s collective power. The Convention attracts innovative change-makers, thought-leaders, entrepreneurs, scholars, entertainers, influencers, and creatives to network and exchange ideas. Delegates debate and vote on the Association’s resolutions to inform policy regarding issues such as criminal justice, environmental justice, education, and gun violence.
