Stay Safe, Support Local: An Important Announcement

Concerns over COVID-19, or novel coronavirus 2019, are causing many of our partners and neighbors to cancel public events or reduce their risk of exposure. While the risk of illness from the disease remains very low for most of us, public health officials recommend that drastic measures be taken to prevent major consequences for the healthcare system and people who are at higher risk of serious illness from the disease.

Because of this, and because it is not known how long this situation will last, we have made the difficult decision to cancel our Annual Meeting + Networking Breakfast for this Friday, March 13.

We will miss seeing you, eating Exodus Bagels, Third Cliff Bakery treats, and Coco Verde Vegan mangú with you; drinking Ula Café coffee with you; and hearing DJ MACHO emcee with you. In the meantime, it’s now more important than ever to support all of those and other great local businesses in Egleston Square. So visit, call, order, and book. STAT.

Here’s what we’re doing instead:

  1. Over the next days and weeks, we’ll be sharing online an Annual Report highlighting our accomplishments of the past year and our plans for the next. We’ll also be sharing what we love about Egleston Square, introducing new board members, and recognizing special volunteers and businesses through a series of short videos on our website and social media.
  2. You can also expect to find out more about our action teams (formerly committees) and how to volunteer: Organization, Economic Development, Quality of Life, and Art, Design + Public Spaces.
  3. The rest of the fun activities and presentations planned for Friday will happen at our Hot Jazz, Cool Neighborhood fundraiser in June–date TBA.
  4. In the meantime, you can still sport this brand new One Egleston / Somos Uno Egleston T-shirt designed by artist Neil Horsky to show your support for small business and our community in Egleston Square:
One Egleston / Somos Uno Egleston T-Shirt

Get a T-shirt by making a donation of $25 and up. Proceeds support small business support and economic development programs in Egleston Square! Donations can be made on our website via Paypal or Network for Good, or you can mail a check to Egleston Square Main Street, 3134 Washington Street, Roxbury, MA 02119. Just email or call us afterwards to let us know whether you’d like to pick up a T-shirt or have it mailed to you.

As always, we’re still here to provide support and technical assistance to local businesses, freelancers, and creative entrepreneurs in our neighborhood. We also need volunteers! Don’t hesitate to call or text 617-637-2270 or email me at denise @ eglestonsquare.org.

Stay tuned, stay safe, stay informed using the list of important resources below, and SUPPORT LOCAL.
